Maxwell is growing

Max is 8 weeks old today. He is getting big and eating a lot, and often. This morning, I (mom) woke up bleary-eyed after another rough night and decided to drag myself to the breastfeeding support group for some answers. I feel like I'm at the end of my rope with night wakings every two hours. Basically this means that I'm almost never horizontal in my bed because he wakes me up at 1 a.m., we stay in the chair nursing, fall asleep sitting until 3 a.m. and then I put him in the crib, but he wakes me up again at 3:15! :( According to the lactation consultant, this should be the worst of it and this phase will pass soon. His cluster feeding in the evenings (when he nurses every hour) is a good sign that the sleep will stretch out to longer blocks. This better be true!

I feel sorry for Penny who is cheerful at 7:15 a.m. and is greeted by zombie mom. She is very understanding and gets her dose of T.V. while I try to wake up...

It was good to go to the group and hear that other moms have similar struggles and to have my experience normalized. I also learned that it is normal and okay for baby to only sleep well while being held at this stage. It was a good reminder to listen to instinct rather than thinking too much about what we "should" do.
